If you are sensitive to the smells of chemicals from fabric dyes, this blanket has no chemical odor. I worry about that when ordering anything that has any color in it at all, but this truly is organic and smells okay. It is also soft and washes easily in the machine following the directions. Can't truly rate durability because I haven't had it that long but I see no reason why this won't last a long time, especially if it isn't getting washed every time it's used.
